Creative Music Templates The following texts are the result of a educational project begun in 2008 at the Academia de Musica, Espinho, Portugal. The aim of the course was initially to coach young students (age 13-14) in chamber-music through creative group-improvisations. However, as we expanded in 2009 to include older students (15-19), it became necessary to develop a more compositional basis to the course. The resulting course provide an introduction to the elements of classical music, with exercises to stimulate composing and improvisation within a classical framework. The Modules themselves are the written background to on-going projects within the classroom. A project consists of a group of various instruments working together on a piece based on an idea or theme of their choice. The ideas can range from a philosophical statement to a newspaper article, from poetry to painting. Over the course of a term or semester the students gather material, explore compositional devices to develop their ideas within the framework of the piece and the group, also practising performing and improvising together and finishing with an open performance of the work. |
